Derek King
Born: Feb 11th, 1967; Hamilton Ontario, Canada;Wife: Suzanne; Kids: Dj (8), Owen & MacGregor both (1)
Playing career:
Played minor hockey in his home town of Hamilton. Played his minor hockey as a defenseman.
In 1984 he was drafted to the Sault Ste Marie Greyhounds in the 2nd round in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) draft. He finished the season as a left winger and was named Rookie of the Year and went to the Junior Hockey Championship ( Memorial Cup ).
He was then selected in the first round of the NHL draft 13th overall to the NewYork Islanders. He finished my Junior career with the Oshawa Generals and turned Pro in !987.
He then went on to play 17 years pro hockey with the NY Islanders, Hartford Whalers, Toronto Maple Leafs and the St. Louis Blues, finshing his career with the Grand Rapids Griffins of the IHL and AHL, and spent a year overseas in Munich Germany in the DEL League.

Coaching back ground:
Was a player coach with the Detroit Red Wings farm team (The Grand Rapid Griffins of the AHL). He has been training professional Hockey Players for the past 4yrs with Athletes Resource.He has also have helped coach his son’s team the past three years with the Jr Coyotes.
King, along with Alex Hicks has started their own Hockey Schools under Top Shelf Hockey and are pursuing other avenues in training youth and pro hockey players.
He is looking forward to working with the kids down at DYHA.
